Borrowing money enables the government to spend more in the present without having to make up the differance until years later. Why do you think that for many years poloticians found it easier to borrow money than to cut the deficit?

Sounds very much like a personal credit card, doesn’t it? the difference is that while in both cases the money is yours, in the case of the government, you don’t have any control over what you spend your money on.
There’s too many social projects and pet projects that are being funded…if the states or the feds took over certain social projects that are for the most part duplicated.
Then maybe..doubtful..the deficits of either would be reduced substantially.
because borrowing hides the true cost of pain, and no senator or congressman want to be the 1st one to cut pork in HIS district as that will effectively end his political career. it’s the vey same reason that entitlements, the biggest part of the federal budget are very hard to cut, and more so with Social Security, as that’s political ******* for any politician to try to reform it.
it also goes along with peoples view of money, as the nation with lowest rate of savings in general, people are used to deficit spending, look at the record debtloadcarried by the average american in credit card bills and HELOCs… proof positive for many that spending wrecklessly feels better than being fiscally repsonsible
Politicians do not want to have difficulty in raising taxes to fill-up their budgets. Thus, they tend to borrow money from banks or other countries to finance their proposals for the people. It is easier to borrow than to collect taxes which is opposed by people.
